NACE Rev. 2.1 code list: all 22 sections and 87 divisions

The NACE code list for NACE Rev. 2.1 has four levels: 22 sections (A to V), 87 divisions (two digits), 287 groups (three digits) and 651 classes (four digits). This page lists the two top levels, which is usually enough to see where an activity belongs. To find the exact class for a business, use the NACE Finder or look up a code on the start page.

How to read a NACE code

Take 47.71: section G (wholesale and retail trade), division 47 (retail trade), group 47.7, class 47.71 (retail sale of clothing). The section letter is not part of the number. Each division belongs to exactly one section, so the letter can always be derived from the first two digits.

What moved compared with NACE Rev. 2

  • The old section J “Information and communication” is split into J (publishing, broadcasting, content) and K (telecommunication, IT and information services).
  • As a result, the sections from the old K onwards shift one letter along: finance is now L, real estate M, professional services N, and so on up to V.
  • There are 87 divisions instead of 88, and 651 classes instead of 615.

National versions

National classifications keep these sections and divisions unchanged and add their own detail below the class level: NAF 2025 in France, ATECO 2025 in Italy, ÖNACE 2025 in Austria and WZ 2025 in Germany.
